Linked Organizations

If you belong to more than one organization, you can link them so agents in one can call agents in the other. A common use is a private organization: keep sensitive notes and your own agents there, and still hand work to your firm’s agents. A link works one way. If your private organization is linked to your firm’s, agents in the private organization can call the firm’s agents. The firm’s agents can’t call yours, and nobody in the firm can see anything in your private organization.

How a call works

When an agent calls an agent in a linked organization, the called agent runs in its own organization, as the person who made the call. It uses that organization’s models, connections, and knowledge, exactly as if you had opened a chat with it there.
  • Only people in both organizations can use a link. If you aren’t a member of the other organization, its agents aren’t available to you, even when the link is active. A link never gives anyone access they didn’t already have.
  • Your message is stored in the other organization, in a conversation of yours there, and that organization’s admins can see it.
  • Files go only when named. The agent sends only the files it names when it makes the call. Nothing else from your conversation goes along.
  • Files the agent makes come back to your conversation, where you can open and use them like any other file.
Only Organization Admins (org:admin) can request, approve, or end links. See Roles & Permissions.
  1. In the organization that will make the calls, go to Control Hub → Settings → Linked organizations.
  2. Under Agents from other organizations, choose the organization whose agents you want to use. Only organizations you belong to are listed.
  3. Click Request access.
The other organization’s admins get an email. The request shows as Waiting for approval until one of them approves it.

Approve a request

In the organization that owns the agents, go to Control Hub → Settings → Linked organizations. Under Organizations using this organization’s agents, each request shows who asked and which of that organization’s members can actually use it (people who belong to both). Click Approve to allow it, or Decline.

Use linked agents

  • Aster can hand work to a linked organization’s agents. Ask it the way you’d ask about any agent, for example “have QC Agent review this memo”.
  • Your own agents can call them too. In an agent’s Callable Agents, linked agents are listed with their organization’s name. An agent set to Allow all agents here and in linked organizations can call any of them.
Agents call each other by id, so two agents with the same name in different organizations are never confused. Admins on either side can end a link in Control Hub → Settings → Linked organizations: Revoke in the organization that owns the agents, Disconnect in the one making the calls. New calls stop right away. Past conversations stay where they are, and files that were already sent stay in the organization they were sent to.

Visibility

Only admins see the Linked organizations page and which organizations are linked. On an agent’s page, admins of the organization that owns it also see Callable from with the organizations that can call it.
